Start outdoors
Millennium Park in Maitama is the most recommended spot in our list, and Rex Clarke reports free entry. Bring something to sit on and something to share, and go in the late afternoon when it's cooler.
Central Park Abuja in the Central Area is listed as free to enter, with go-karting at about ₦3,000 to ₦5,000 according to Rex Clarke, which makes it an easy first date: something to do, and something to laugh about after.
The lake at sunset
A sunset boat ride on Jabi Lake is one of the most romantic ideas in the guides. Afterwards, Jabi Lake Mall is close by: Rex Clarke reports a cinema ticket at about ₦3,500 and meals from ₦6,000 to ₦10,000 a person. For dinner with the outdoors around you, BluCabana in Mabushi is reported at about ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 a person.
A romantic dinner
For a dressed-up evening, The Burgundy in the Central Area is listed for romantic dinners and proposals. The Vue in Wuse Zone 5 adds a rooftop.
Wuse 2 has the most choice in one place: Carneval, Citypot, Citro and Field and Ocean Butchery are all in the guides. Elsewhere, Asados in Maitama, Halims Smokehouse in Garki and Istanbul Restaurant Café in Jabi are recommended too.
On a small budget
A good date doesn't need a big bill. Crush Café in Wuse 2 is reported at under ₦5,000 for two. Thought Pyramid Art Centre, also in Wuse 2, is listed as free to enter, and walking through a gallery gives you plenty to talk about.
Something playful
If you'd rather laugh than sit still, Magicland Amusement Park in Area 1 is reported at about ₦3,000 a person, and City Park in Wuse 2 at about ₦5,000.
A day to slow down
For a special occasion, Evenana Spa in Apo offers private jacuzzi and spa packages, reported by WakaAbuja at ₦30,000 to ₦80,000.
A few tips
- Book ahead for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and much earlier around Valentine's Day.
- Outdoor plans are best in the late afternoon. Have an indoor plan B in case of rain.
- Check opening hours before you go; they change, especially on public holidays.
